Summary/Abstract: The present study focuses on the scandal as a large-scale media phenomenon with rapid spread, but with insignificant consequences and results. It is immediately necessary to clarify that not all media scandals fall into this category, but they are not of interest in this case. The paper also discusses the scandals to which the metaphor of „storm in a cup of tea" can be attributed. The main thesis is that the scandal is positioned in the field of media reality, but the real consequences remain outside this reality. The objects of this study are the political scandals, which contain the morpheme „gate“ in its name. The paper aims to present the scandal as a structure with distributed roles and resources. What all the examples described have in common is that the consequences are insignificant. The noise in the media about each scandal is inversely proportional to the effect of the impact, which is definitely short-lived.
