Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we focus on optimization of didactic processing of word-formation in lower secondary education. We summarize what knowledge and skills from the area of word-formation are expected in the present-day school and analyse its didactic processing in the approved textbooks. Building on the previous works grounded in cognitive-communicative approach to the lexical competence development in primary education, we try to determine the optimal word-formation curriculum and its time distribution within the lower secondary education. The aim is also to suggest the way in which the word-formation should be presented in education process, so that this professionally demanding content necessary for cognitive development of pupils could be transformed effectively in an appropriate didactic way.
