COMPARISON AND COST ANALYSIS OF FLUORESCENT AND LED TUBE LIGHTS IN LIGHTING

Summary/Abstract: The device which converts electrical energy into light energy and is called lamp, was invented by Edison firstly, and after it has changed and developed with the technology in history. Thanks to the developing technology, lamps with similar technical, electrical and optical properties, but longer life and less energy consumption can be produced. The last example of these technologies is LED tube lamps. In this study, LED tube lamps and fluorescent lamps were examined in terms of their general properties, electrical properties, optical properties and lifes. LED tube lamps and fluorescent lamps are compared in terms of purchasing and energy consumption costs in interior such as especially the bus station, airport, conference hall, exhibition hall, office, lobby, corridor and staircase, where the lamps are on for a long time. In the result of this cost analysis using real data, it was concluded that LED tube lamps provide a serious advantage over fluorescent lamps that are still widely used in many places. It is thought that this balance will increasingly continue in favor of LED tube lamps with the developments in technology.
