Summary/Abstract: The twentieth century brought to the whole world the new experience of a special ethos, of a suitable notation and of some innovations that quickly infiltrated into all the substrates of the creative act of performance and in the understanding of the sound reality. The new inner quality of the modern musician also requires the approach of other methods than the traditional ones, able to offer a different type of information than the one strictly revealed by the score, than the one accessible so far by known methods. Current musical notation is an emblematic system, being recognized worldwide. The symbols of musical notation indicate both sound-related aspects (sounds, accents) and non-sounds (music bars, clefs, key signatures). Most musical analyses are based on data extracted from music sheets, but in order for a computer to be able to identify and process them, the musical text needs to be codified, so that the musical notes become numbers and symbols in the information system.
