Summary/Abstract: When writers are placed in a situation where they feel compelled to convince their readers that what is being read represents reality, they may make use of a variety of specific techniques, structures, as well as explicit parts of speech. The present paper attempts to prove that when journalists seek to evaluate the accuracy of facts presented or observations recorded, they also employ a particular part of speech, namely the adverb. Writers make use of adverbs especially when there is the desire to present their piece of writing as unchallengeable as it can stand a validity test from the part of potential readers. The paper shows that adverbs are an important part of this process.
