Summary/Abstract: Multiculturalism is the characteristic of today's society, a society characterized by globalization and the presence of diversity on several dimensions: ethnic, religious, linguistic, cultural, social, etc. In this challenging social context, intercultural education becomes a valuable tool through which we open ourselves to diversity, we learn that multiculturalism enriches the society, the community, ourselves and expands the horizons. Through intercultural education we manage to transform multiculturalism (the presence of several cultures in the same territory) into interculturalism (the interaction between different cultures). An illustration of what multiculturalism and interculturalism means in Romanian society is the Roma community on Stejarului Street in Alba Iulia, a community segregated in many ways.
