MIGRATIONS OF RITHENIANS

Summary/Abstract: Ruthenians represent one of the smallest national minority in Serbia. According to the census from the year 2002. there were fifteen thousand Ruthenians. That number has been gradually declining in the last thirty years. Fundamental reasons for this are the negative rate of growth, assimilation through mixed marriages and emigration. State encourages education and the informing of Ruthenians in their native language and the development of their culture, but in long-term, the process of the natural disappearing of this small community cannot be stopped. However, the speed of this process is unpredictable.
