Summary/Abstract: Antisemitism was widespread and respectable amongst most Romanians in interwarRomania. This paper chronicles and examines the legislatives measures taken against the Jews during this period and argues that King Carol promoted antisemitism for political expediency. It shows that under the Goga government of late 1937 antisemitism was raised to the level of state policy, a policy that was intensified under the National Legionary State headed by Ion Antonescu.
