Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to discuss empirical research on citizens’ sense of health safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, and make a comparative analysis of all the Visegrad Group countries in this respect. The analysis is based on survey data collected in the V4 countries (Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary) in three thematic areas: safety, media and civic society. The article also uses analysis of statistical data, such as the number of COVID-19 infections, deaths, tests and vaccinations. The data gathered in this way helped to illustrate the actual state of the pandemic and provided a basis for a subsequent comparative analysis. The epidemiological situation across the world has had a significant impact on citizens’ sense of safety. In the Visegrad countries, their feeling of security during the COVID-19 pandemic was subject to considerable fluctuations, influenced by the development of the pandemic in a given period and the restrictions imposed by the governments.
