Summary/Abstract: The paper reviews the initiatives addressed to the government and launched within the Russian legal framework by the Karaite secular and religious actors in the second half of the 19th century. Specifically, it offers an analysis of the petition by Abraham and Gabriel Firkoviches concerning a change in the legal status of Karaites in Russian Empire in the furtherance of the “Jewish question”, as well as their economic proposals. These initiatives were embedded documentation-wise into the activity of the highest organs of authority of the Russian Empire and administrative institutions at a local level
