Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present article is to examine the specificity of “motion” word-formingprocess in the Polish language, particularly as regards the feminine noun names, whichare, essentially, derived from masculine names; to comment on the analysis of severalexamples drawn from the literature on the subject, press and Internet sources; andto draw attention to the complexity and importance of the problem of coining terms foroccupations, functions, positions and degrees in a gender-sensitive manner, taking intoaccount contemporary socio-economic changes. Of crucial importance will be most popularword-forming formant -ka, whose purpose is to derive feminine equivalents of masculinenames; its multifunctional nature will be discussed insofar as it, most often, has a negativeimpact on the creation of feminine forms. Attention will also be given to the peculiar, andnot yet officially recognized, feminine forms in the Polish language, such as filologini, ministra, which already function in selected language user groups and which, in thecourse of time, will probably become acceptable in the official language.
