Summary/Abstract: This article consists of two parts. The first one is a contribution to a methodological reflection on the position of a researcher in relation to the object and subjects of research. The second part pre-sents a case study devoted to the analysis of narratives functioning in the urban respiratory politics (on the example of a social advertising campaign conducted in Rybnik). Using the prepared tools, the author shows how the story of clean air as a goal to be pursued by any urban community be-comes an instrument that triggers shame of a strictly class character. The article ends with a reflec-tion on the need for a redefinition and continual clarification of the ethical foundations of research positions.
