Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to present the specificity of the concept of smart specialization, its strengths and weaknesses, as well as examples of its successful use in the development of selected regions. The study has been based mainly on literature surveys and the analysis of documents, including the RIS3 guide presenting the mechanism of the development of regional smart specialization strategy.
