Summary/Abstract: During the twenty-year period after the end of the Second World War Bulgaria established diplomatic and political relations with the Arab countries and laid down the foundations for the development of economic contacts. That was a new direction in the Bulgarian foreign policy. That cooperation had different pacing and forms with the different Arab countries and was influenced by both the domestic political and the economic development of the states, as well as by the dynamics of their international relations. In the mid-1960s, the growing Arab pressure for the acceptance of the Arab visions on the Arab-Israeli confrontation became a major challenge for Sofia and it had specific economic dimensions. The aim of the study is to analyze the leading factors encouraging the upward trend in the Bulgarian-Arab relations on the one hand and those that fueled negative trends on the other hand.
