Summary/Abstract: The paper covers problems of cultural dimensions of post-industrial cities. It presents theoretical as well as methodological assumptions of theory of scenes, which has been formulated by so called “New Chicago School” in urban sociology. Applying this theory, the author provides some data on cultural character of Polish urban communes and examines their cultural profile, as well as describes cultural scenes of Warsaw. She concludes that Polish cities do not reflect “Western” patterns of post-industrial cultural dynamics.
