Summary/Abstract: The topicality of the research is based on the growing interest in the study of Ernest Hemingway’s “Iceberg” style of writing, which is masterfully realized in many of his works, revealed by some techniques including, symbolism, weather depiction, dialogues, monologues, syntactical constructions and a simple language, quite understandable to the reader. Scholars investigate his individual style from various aspects. The hypothesis of this paper is that Ernest Hemingway’s “Iceberg” style of writing can be decoded through the usage of discourse analysis. In consequence, we are going to approach this style by using discourse analysis that includes analysis of lexical and grammatical cohesion, speech act theory (locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary acts), and pragmatic intentions of the text (utterance, context, entailment, implicature, deixis and presupposition).
