Summary/Abstract: The article discusses markings on individual vehicle registration plates in Polandas a linguistic phenomenon on the interface between propriality and appellativity. This type of linguistic creations have a naming nature, fulfilling a utilitarian functionin administrative and general communication. Authors of individual registration marksare obliged to use a predetermined composition pattern, which admits the inclusionof relatively arbitrary lexical and alphanumeric distinctive elements. A corpus of suchmarks was subjected to onomastic and lexicological formation analysis, establishingformal and motivational construction classes of creatively composed vehicle “numbers”.The information coded in individual markings is part of the “mobile linguistic landscape”of contemporary public space.
