Summary/Abstract: For modern political thought, the idea that there is a strong connection between power, consent and legitimacy is very important. The people are the source of power through the consent they give. The political power derives its legitimacy from the good it achieves. It is the people who evaluate and appreciate this. The limits of the king's power and resistance to oppression are subjects that accompany this approach. At the dawn of modernity, preventing tyranny is a major desideratum. All these ideas will become essential for the contractualist approach and modern political order.
