Summary/Abstract: The text brings reflection on the ways to preserve higher feelings in an extreme existential experience of life in a concentration camp. The analytic material was taken from the works by Tadeusz Borowski, in particular two of them: Do narzeczonej and Wołanie do Marii. Both poems are connected by their integral lyrical situation, referencing the biography of the author himself, and the identity of the lyrical subject speaking from the middle of the camp’s reality as its participant and witness in one person. The identity of both poems at the level of the lyrical voice and at the level of the hero, as well as identity with the person of real author, is an additional advantage. The performed analyses concentrate on the structure of the poetic world and the specific character of imagery, which reveal, on one hand, the trauma of the lyrical subject, and on the other hand, an attempt to preserve the humanity, perceived in preservation of higher feelings. In the further part of the text, a comparison has been made between the feeling of the world inherent in Borowski’s works and the experiences and attitudes related to the same time and similar experience, as presented in the works by Tadeusz Różewicz, Paul Celan and Czesław Miłosz.
