Mutual insurance companies, special type legal entities

Summary/Abstract: This essay is dedicated to the research, identification and presentation of the specifics of the special type of legal entities regulated by Law no. 71 of April 22, 2019, regarding the mutual insurance companies and for the amendment and completion of some normative acts. As I will point out, the Romanian lawmaker configured and regulated a category of atypical insurance companies, as legal entities that, although not meant for profit, are assimilated, in certain respects, to (commercial) joint stock companies, being subject to the registration in the trade register and, also, having certain obligations specific to the status of insurance companies.
