Summary/Abstract: In the following paper the general characteristics and trends of development companies in the clothing and footwear sector are presented. Special attention has been paid to the development strategies implemented in four selected companies during a boom in the economy and during the crisis. The effectiveness of strategies have been assessed based on the financial condition of the companies and the improvement of competitive position measured by the increase in market share.
