Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the problem of social functioning of a child with behavioural and emotional disorders. After introducing the problems addressed in the article (terminology, reasoning of the phenomenon), a reference has been made to the case study, which describes how the child behaves in the family, at school and in the social environment. The article also provides thorough description of everyday problems parents, teachers and social guardians struggle with. The article indicates the helplessness of people who work in educational institutions, as well as their inability to cope with children with behavioural disorders. In the conclusions, some changes have been suggested, which could make teachers’ work with such children easier. For instance, it has been suggested that subjects in the field of psychopathology, psychiatry and social pathology could be added to teacher education as well as enriching subject programs with the content in the field of methods – the behavioural method as the most effective in shaping the desirable behaviour of a child. Specialists conducting therapy with a child with disorders should familiarise parents with its assumptions.
