Summary/Abstract: Michal Krecul, born in Carpathian Ruthenia, was imprisoned for political reasons first in a Soviet Gulag and later in Czechoslovak uranium mine camps. In November 1944, he participated in the murder of a group of ten Jewish civilians who were hiding from the Nazis and Slovak fascists in a forest in the Nízké Tatry mountains in Slovakia. The murderers, led by Soviet partisans, were never tried before a court, despite repeated investigations and clear evidence.
