Summary/Abstract: The article presents the idea of studying and its different aspects, as well as a variety of studying contexts which constitute its essence. The author recalls university and university education ethos and recognizes its current debasement including its socio-cultural and mental reasons. She presents the results of her survey on perception of studying and culture of studying among Geography students from Warsaw University together with the conclusions concerning this area of education. The collective picture of the perception of the studying process and the culture of studying is quite satisfactory, however, individually it is often enough impoverished, desultory or superficial. The author presents additional research questions, which make an outline for further research in this field.
