Summary/Abstract: According to religious traditions, the priest’ s words and preaches, based on the Bible and holly writings, were considered to be the foundation of a better spiritual life and attitude for his auditors. During the Enlightenment Age, this tradition has been transformed into a method of education and Samuil Micu was the first one who understood its importance. He published his first book of religious precepts in 1784 and named it Propovedanie sau Învăţături la îngropăciunea oamenilor morţi. His example was later followed by Petru Maior, who published several preaches books, during his censorship at the typography from Buda. Samuil Micu’ s activity as a preacher was based on the educational politics of the Austrian emperor Iosif the IInd, that transformed the priest into a teacher and a „father of the people” and established the rules of priests education. His book, published in 1784, consisted on 15 preaches about death and crossing rituals, and his intention was to complete it later, with other texts. Micu’ s preferences for some special themes is quite obvious; he liked to write about life and death, happiness and illness, and the fight man has to deal with up to the end of his life. His writings are first based on the Bible and on its commentaries; but Micu also uses some of the works of the famous antique historians and philosophers, such as Strabo, Diodor, Seneca, Origene and others.
