Summary/Abstract: The students’ and school press of the Mureş area was marked during the communist period by the political restrictions, but also by the national reputation it had reached during the interwar period. Its evolution begins with a stagnation phase during the 50s, followed by the launch of multiple publications during the 60s. A relevant aspect regarding the school and students’ publications is related to their bilingual form of publication (Romanian-Hungarian), according to the communist regime’ vision regarding the propagandistic role of bilingualism. In this context, in 1971 many of these publications were upgraded from the typed form to the printed format, along with the 50 years celebration of the Romanian Communist Party. Besides the importance atributed to this type of press by the communist propaganda targeting the youth, the editors of these publications managed to combine the political restrictions of the period with a relevant historical and journalistic content, a balance which conferres the value of the students’ and school press as an important documentary source.
