MACEDONIAN QUESTION IN THE BALKAN CONTEXT (1856 – 1875)

Summary/Abstract: Тhe Geneology of Macedonian question delving deep into the XIX century. Professor F. Adanir coniders that the Macedonian question begins with the foundation of the Exarchate. But, the careful re-reading of the source-material leads us to the content of this complex issue which begins in mid-50s of the XIX century. The Macedonian issue from 1856 to 1875 expressed as linguistic, cultural and ethnic one in demands of the organized groups before public authorities, in this case - the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Bulgarian Exarchate, regarding the millet system in Ottoman state. In the period that followed (1878 - 1913) international political conjuncture anticipated Macedonian question primarily as a political issue.
