Summary/Abstract: The article examines the problem of light both as a metaphor for the divine first cause and as an evidential phenomenon during the Transfiguration of Christ. The questions about the nature of the divine Tabor light gave rise to one of the most important theological debates in Christian history. The article outlines and scrutinizes the opposing approaches and the arguments taken by the opponents Gregory Palamas and Barlaam of Calabria in the famous debate that took place in the middle of the 14th century. The different interpretations of Pseudo-Areopagite’s doctrine about light reveal the profound spiritual difference between Eastern and Western Christianity.
