Summary/Abstract: Having formulated their research questions concerning the Baha’i and the movement of Sathya Sai Baba in the introduction, in the second part of the paper the authors outline the history of these movements in Latvia. Further they present excerpts from their interviews (recorded during a fieldwork) with adepts of these religions. The authors regard such a dialogic mode of inquiry as granting a deeper insight into both the contemporary spiritual developments and the ways in which they engender religiosity. Furthermore, such a mode of inquiry also confirms the diversity of human spiritual dimensions. Taking into account that diversity one becomes wary of those conclusions about the individual that are based on external characteristics or formal criteria, or the received wisdom about a certain social phenomenon. The authors conclude that the understanding of the other and the respect towards it can only be engendered in a personal encounter. The authors have deliberately abstained from extensive commentaries on the interview data leaving it to the reader to form their own ideas about the stories presented.
