Summary/Abstract: Since the beginnings of Christianity, social work took the form of religious actions. Until the 16th century, most actions undertaken to help the various categories of the disabled were carried out in monasteries and religious congregations. The beginnings of social work in our country had at a strong religious character, materializing, for centuries, around the monasteries. In recent years, priests and lay people of the Romanian Orthodox Church have formed various associations and foundations, many of them with having charity as executive objective. Abandoned children are one of their main concerns.
