Summary/Abstract: The Romanian church in Tokyo was consecrated on 3 November, the feast dedicated to the translation of the relics of St George to Lydda. The service was celebrated by His Eminence Iosif, the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe, and His Eminence Daniel, Archbishop of Tokyo and Metropolitan of All Japan. The consecration of the worship place followed the restoration works conducted over the recent years. The Romanian parish in Tokyo was established 12 years ago. In 2008, at the request of the faithful residing in Japan, the Romanian Patriarchate sent priests Alexandru Nicodim and Cristian Gheorghiu. Currently, Rev. Daniel Corîu is parish priest. The consecration of the church is the culmination of all efforts undertaken by the community and the parish council in order to obtain the status of legal religious entity from the Japanese government. Legal personality was acknowledged in August, the current year. The parish comprises numerous mixed, Romanian-Japanese families, as well as members of various nationalities (American, Greek, Russian, etc). Its area covers approximately 120,000 square km and includes major cities such as Tokyo – the capital of Japan, Yokohama, Chiba, Sendai and others.
