Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the basic postulates of the ecological modernization theory as one of the leading sociological standpoints in environmental research. According to the theory, economy and ecology are not in collision, and superindustrialization can provide further development of contemporary societies. Beside changes in production, ecological modernization implies changes in economy structure, social institutions and environmental policy. The analysis of the ecological modernization theory is also conducted through comparing its postulates with other leading sociological perspectives of environmental problems (Club of Rome, sustainable development, Beck`s risk society).
