Digitalization, participation and visualization in historical research: the example of Czech compatriots in the USA

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with a particular digital archival project focusing on the role of Czech and Slovak Americans in the World War II. Besides its description, theoretical and practical, its implication for further use are discussed, both among scientists and non-specialized users. The methodological framework reflects includes some fundamental approaches from New media theorists, as reflected in the title of the article. Secondary, we are opening a discussion on the use and application of GIS modeling for the historical data and its influence on our understanding of historical research and representation in general and on the history of the community itself.
