Summary/Abstract: The reviewed publication describes the situation in nine Czech villages and towns and its impact on public attitudes. The book's author suggests that the selected settlements have a number of commonalities, and that many problems that are perceived as "burning issues" at the national level are not felt at all at the local level or, more often, are transformed, i.e. “distilled“ by local specifics and priorities. The reviewed publication can be recommended to readers who are interested in the functioning of Czech municipalities "from below", as well as those who have tired of major national problems and for whom it may be inspiring to consider everyday reality at the local level.
