Summary/Abstract: The review analyses the book "Publishing and Book Design in Latvia 1919–1940: A Re-discovery" (Riga, 2014) by the American bibliophile James Howard Fraser, appreciating its contribution to a field which no Latvian researher had taken up from such a broad perspective. Having studied a vast array of mostly short-lived publications, the author has managed to point out high-quality design solutions as well as to present a panoramic view of publishing business in Latvia, tracing the destinies of its protagonists of various ethnic origins who suffered much during the political turmoils of the 20th century.
