Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present study is to give a short outline of the history of the Christian Orthodox groups in Czechoslovakia and briefly to look at their relationship with the Czechoslovak state. The destiny of the Orthodox Church in the territories of Czechoslovakia in the period between 1918 and 1993 was closely linked with the local political situation – in the interwar period with political nepotism and fascism, later on with post-war communism. The existence of the Church itself was very much dependent on the state’s external and internal orientation and its legislature.
