Summary/Abstract: In this article, the colloquial perception of binge drinking as a harmful concept, practice, and a form of deviant behavior is deconstructed. The focus is shifted toward cultural and social dimensions of binging. Firstly, I offer insight into definitions of binge drinking as risky and undesirable behavior, as seen from the perspective of public health, and humanities up until recently. Then, drinking and getting drunk will be offered a fresh start, as a constructed process and practice that can be learned and mastered through experience. Binge drinking can also be manipulated as social capital and potential source of pleasure. The neoliberal discourse of leisure culture reflects through binge drinking, which prioritizes pleasure and heightened states of excitement.
