Summary/Abstract: This text is inspired by the 200th anniversary of the birthday of one of the greatest Russian/Ukraine author – N. V. Gogol. His contribution in the fantastic short story in the tradition of the European Literature is noticeable from the folklore fantastic short story, through the „realistic” fantastic short story, right up to the fantastic short story of the absurd. There are a lot of authors in Macedonian literature who are admirers of Gogol and also of the fantastic short story as a form of literary narration within the frameworks of fiction. Some typical forms of Gogol’s fantastic short stories could be found in the literary practice of Macedonian writers. For example, the subject of duality or the link between tragic expression and the strong feelings of humour. The popularity of N. V. Gogol has not been diminished by time, on the contrary: it has gained intensity.
