Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the archaeobotanical remains unearthed on the Neo-Eneolithic site from Cheile Turzii-Pestera Ungurească in the 2004 campaign. Twenty samples containing carbonized macro remains were picked from the most relevant contexts during the excavations. After the manual selection of the vegetal remains, it became obvious that cereals were the most often encountered, with 113 seeds. The species of emmer wheat and einkorn wheat were present, with 36 seeds and 9 seeds respectively. Other species identified were Triticum aestivum, Panicum miliaceum and Lens esculenta, which were irrelevant quantitatively. Important fruit species discovered on the archaeological site were Cornus mas and Prunus avium. Cornelian cherry appeared in important quantities, as revealed by seed identification. The archaeobotanical results together with further analysis carried out in contemporaneous sites have confirmed that an important subsistence strategy was to combine plant cultivation with fruit picking from the inhabited area.
