Summary/Abstract: The publication contains a Bulgarian translation of five chapters from the work of the German traveler Ludolf von Südheim (14th century) Liber de itinere Terrae Sanctae, along with a preface and a scientific commentary. The translation follows Ferdinand Deycks edition of the long Latin version of the text, published in Stuttgart in 1851. Ludolph’s work is one of the rare itineraries written in the first half of the 14th century; a representative of the popular itinerary genre, which describes the pilgrims’ travels to the Holy Land. The selected chapters cover the author’s account of his journey through the southern Balkans and the Aegean between 1336 and 1341 A.D. The translated texts contain unique information for the described regions in important moment of their history – the gradual advancement of the Anatolian Turks towards the Aegean Sea and the Balkans.
