Summary/Abstract: The topic of education in Bulgaria during the time of Khan Boris I and Tsar Simeon the Great is extremely extensive to be presented in a report or article. Monographic research is to be devoted to it. My unambitious task is only to sketch the problem and point out what I think are the possible ways to address it comprehensively. In this sense, the information we have about the teaching activities of St. Clement in Kutmichevitsa or more generally in the southwestern parts of early medieval Bulgaria can be of great benefit to us.In general, Clement fulfilled the order of Khan Boris to attract the people of Kutmichevitsa to the Christian religion. The necessity and importance of preaching for the fulfilment of this task were indisputable. It was an integral part of the work of a “teacher” sent by the Christian church among newly converted Gentiles. As in Moravia, so here Clement proved to be a talented preacher and orator. Gaining experience in his companionship of Cyril and Methodius, he most fully manifested his gift in the southwestern outskirts of medieval Bulgaria.
