Summary/Abstract: The settlements of the Bistra Valley represent a multi-ethnic and multi-denominational space. The Austro-Turkish military conflicts of the late 17th century caused great destruction and significant population displacement. The second half of the 18th century saw unprecedented population growth. The analysis of local anthroponymy based on urbarial conscriptions, in combination with other sources specific to the eighteenth century, highlights the evolution of the population, aspects pertaining to the ethnic and religious structure in the villages of the Bistra Valley at the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Modern Age.
