Revised European Convention on the Adoption of Children

Summary/Abstract: After four decades, Convention on the Adoption of Children (1967) has shown some weaknesses in terms of limitation of individual solutions. This is especially evident when comparing its solutions with the practice of the European Court of Human Rights. The revised European Convention on the Adoption of Children, adopted in 2008, has a primary aim to harmonize national legislation in this area, which would be reflected in a uniform law of the European Court of Human Rights. The authors analyse the provisions of the Convention in order to show the major new items and to what extent our national laws have to comply with its provisions in case our country ratifies the Convention.
