Summary/Abstract: Main objective of the paper is to present a new Test of silent word reading, which can be used to assess the fluency of silent reading at the word level. It is a quick, group-administered test focused on the assessment of speed and accuracy of silent reading, which may be used for screening, assessment, and scientific purposes, in a future. The test was inspired by the English test Test of Silent Word Reading Fluency, TOSWRF-2 (Mather et al., 2014), which is commonly used in the Anglo-American environment to assess the fluency of silent reading at the word level. Within a pilot survey, on a sample of 76 pupils from the 2nd to the 5th grade of a regular primary school, we want to point out its potential for speech therapy, special-educational and psychological practice. In the study, we will present the first data that aim to determine the reliability and validity of the test. We are interested how the performance of the general population develops in the Test of silent word reading across grades and what types of errors we can identify, which is a valuable contribution to qualitative analysis in the diagnostic process. At the end, we will present the performance of two children diagnosed with dyslexia and dysortographia and point out the possibility of using this test to identify specific developmental learning disorders.
