Summary/Abstract: The issue of fords in the episcopal Warmia has not been the subject of detailed scientific research so far. In medieval documents we meet in Warmia with four fords mentioned by name. Three of them were located in Pasłęka: Algetos (1284), Cucke (1251, 1254), Ginthebrast (1289) and one in Łyna: Kat (1254). On the basis of the presented material, it can be seen that fords very often appeared in the oldest border documents of the Warmian dominion, but also in the grants granted by the Order. In the thirteenth and first half of the fourteenth century, fords were important and characteristic places in topography. Communication routes that were important at that time often led through them. Knowing and accurately determining the location of fords thanks to archival, handwritten ones can greatly help in research on the development of the road network in the area of Warmia in the Middle Ages and in the modern era.
