Summary/Abstract: Human dignity is a very important concept for the value of men and women, for the respect we must give to them. Fundamentals documents stipulating human rights, such as Charter of Fundamental Rights of European Union and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, affirm and promote human dignity. From a Judeo-Christian perspective, human dignity is highlighted by the concept of Imago Dei, men and women being the bearers of the divine image. Also, human dignity is affirmed by the sacredness of life and by the act of redemption accomplished by Christ. Human dignity is based neither on material possessions, nor on the position occupied on the social scale, nor on sex or culture difference, but on the intrinsic value of the human being, on what is common in the structure of each person.
