THE POTENTIAL AND DEVELOPMENT OF EVENT TOURISM IN THE CITY OF OSIJEK

Summary/Abstract: In the development strategy of the City of Osijek from industrial to intelligent city 2014- 2020 as some of the goals of the city development are listed organization of tourist attractions for young tourists and vision for the city development as an attractive city to live in and the city of youth. Therefore, the development of event tourism in the city of Osijek is a possible solution. The City of Osijek has numerous cultural, sports and entertainment events that have become traditional (Pannonian Challenge, Osijek Summer of Youth, Osijek Cultural Summer, Evening of Wine & Art, Osijek Antiquities Fair, Antunovo in Fortress Event, ReArt Festival, Osijek Air show, Advent in Osijek, Ferivi Halfmarathon, Tour de Slavonia, Gymnastics World Cup, etc.). Given the fact that modern tourists want an active vacation, the City of Osijek has all the predispositions to become the event tourism destination. In the paper are presented the tourist potentials of the City of Osijek, events, analysis of the tourism market and SWOT analysis of the development of the event tourism in the City of Osijek, which can be initiator of economic and social development of the city.
