Summary/Abstract: The most important gesture of opposition and civic courage in the time of the communist regime in Romania was that of Father George Calciu (1925-2006), materialised in a cycle of paschal homilies, “Seven homilies to the youth”, uttered in 1978 before a young and enthusiastic audience that were later widely circulated and became a genuine paschal mystagogy on freedom. The model of this kind of homilies is found in Greek political philosophy and ethics, in the literature of Elenophone Judaism (the Septuagint), in the New Testament and the writings of the Church Fathers, in the tradition about parrhesia.
