Summary/Abstract: The industrial tradition of Reșița has its beginnings in the 18th century, but the production of machines began only in the second half of the 19th century with the construction of a steam-engine that participated in the World’s Fair in Vienna. In 1955, the Machine Construction Plant of Reșița delivered the 1,000th locomotive made here since the beginning of production. A few years later, in 1964, the communist authorities stopped the production of steam locomotives.
