The use of open source intelligence for the purposes of conducting background

Summary/Abstract: This article is dedicated to the use of open source intelligence available on the internet for the purposes of conducting background investigation on individuals. The background investigation is considered an essential part of the Criminal Intelligence Process for collection of initial information. The article is an attempt to identify basic principles and rules while searching for criminal intelligence on the internet. Different methods for detecting web based sources of information and for collecting intelligence from such sources are indicated. The main goal is to emphasize the potential of the intelligent use of the modern technologies to gather criminal intelligence.
